Elwyn Chooses Haverford Development Partners as its partner for the 175th Anniversary Media Master Campus Plan

Elwyn Chooses Haverford Development Partners as its Development and Construction Partner for the 175th Anniversary Master Campus Plan

December 17, 2024 – Elwyn, the internationally-recognized nonprofit human services organization, is proud to announce it has chosen Haverford Development Partners as its development and construction partner for the new Elwyn School and the overall master campus plan design.

The long-term partnership is the next step as Elwyn marks its 175th anniversary with the transformation of its 260-acre Delaware County headquarters into a modern and comprehensive campus. At its completion, the Master Campus Plan will include state-of-the-art environments that promote health and healing for residents, teachers, staff, and the surrounding community.

“We began this revitalization effort in earnest last year and this decision is pushing our vision one step further,” Charles “Chuck” S. McLister, Elwyn’s President and CEO, said. “As we approach our historic milestone of 175 years, we will march proudly into the future, toward the next generation of residents, students, staff, and of course, our Delaware County community.”

Elwyn has allocated $45 million for the construction and design of the new school. Haverford Development Partners will collaborate with North Star Construction Management to bring this project to life.

“In the construction of Elwyn’s school and re-invention of its main campus, we hope to create an example of what an optimal residential, educational and therapeutic environment can look like for children and adults with autism, intellectual, and developmental disabilities,” said Charlie Houder, principal and founder of Haverford Development Partners. “It is the greatest privilege of my professional life to execute this vision. Of all the things we could do with our time – I can think of nothing more important than this work.”

The historic investment demonstrates Elwyn’s commitment to its surrounding community as well as its support of children and adults with autism, as well as intellectual and developmental disabilities. It furthers Elwyn’s goal to modernize education programs as well as its real estate.

This aspect of Elwyn’s 10-year, $100 million revitalization will transform and restructure the services it offers as well as the footprint of the headquarters in Delaware County.

“We look forward to working closely and collaboratively with our local leaders and community partners to bring this vision to reality,” McLister said. “We want them involved every step of the way, because the crux of this project is about improving our campus for all the members of our community.”
